Woman remanded in prison for slapping Inspector at a police station


A 35-year-old housewife, Ugochi Eze, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Prison for allegedly slapping a female Police Inspector, Temi Ade, at the Itire Police Division in Lagos State, after a case of theft was reported against her.

According to PM News, Eze was accused of stealing her close friend's phone and when Ade who is the crime officer at the division, tried to find out from her what transpired, Eze got angry and slapped the Inspector.

It was gathered that the Imo State born Eze had entered the apartment of her friend, Chioma Alumona at 48, Aborishade Street, Lawanson, Surulere, and stole a phone belonging to Alumona, who, on discovering the missing phone, reported the matter to the police who arrested Eze.

When they got to the station, the Inspector was said to have asked Eze what happened that brought her to the station, after she had refused to talk to any officer, gut she got angry and assaulted Ade.

Eze was charged at the Isolo Magistrates' Court on a two-count charge of assault and theft and when the charges were read to her, she pleaded not guilty, prompting the presiding Magistrate, Mrs A. K. Shonubi, to grant her bail in the sum of N30,000. But when she could not provide a surety in like sum, she was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail.
