EgyptAir Flight With 66 Passengers On Board Missing

An EgyptAir Flight 804 from Paris to Cairo with 66 people on board has been declared missing.

The flight left Paris at 11:09 p.m. Wednesday and was due in Cairo at 3:15 a.m. Thursday. The Airbus A320 was flying at 37,000 feet when it disappeared.

A distress signal was detected in the vicinity where the flight disappeared from radar 2 hours later, the airline said. The distress signal could be automated, rather than sent by a pilot.

The plane was carrying people from multiple nationalities including 30 Egyptians and 15 French nationals. Also in the flight were three children, including two babies.

Egypt's foreign ministry exchanged condolences with France on Thursday over what it called the "fall" of an EgyptAir flight carrying 66 people from Paris to Cairo.

The statement was the first official admission that those on board were likely to have died.

Egypt's foreign ministry said in its statement that the two countries had agreed to cooperate closely in investigating the causes of the incident.
