Flood Takes Over Residence In Benin City


Flood victims in some parts of Benin city, the capital of Edo State, Nigeria has recounted their ordeal.

The residents of flood prone areas in the city are still recounting their losses as a result of the downpour that lasted for 12 hours on monday, 24th June, 2019.


According to Independence Television and Radio Reporter, Pius Nsogbo a Secondary School student on Eriaria Street, Evboriaria quarters who was returning from school got drowned in an over drainage under construction while other residents abandoned their homes.


Some flood victims of the area blamed the flood on the incompetent handling of roads by the contractors.

Other areas affected by the flood were some parts of Ugbor GRA and Erediauwa Road, off Sapele Road Benin city.


However, some delegates of the state government visited some of the flood victims following directive by the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.


The delegation include Commissioner for Environment, Omua Oni-Okpako, Special Adviser on Special Duties, Yakubu Gowon, officials of State and National Emergency Management Agencies.
