BREAKING: Manchester United sack Van Gaal

Louis van Gaal is understood to have been sacked by Manchester United in a face-to-face meeting with Ed Woodward.

United executive vice-chairman Woodward met Van Gaal at the club’s AON Training Complex this morning where it is said he informed the Dutchman he was being relieved of his duties.

Van Gaal will have the final year of his £6million-a-year contract paid up in full, with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho ready to succeed the 64-year-old at Old Trafford.

After arriving at United’s training complex at 8.45am, Van Gaal went into a one-on-one meeting with Woodward, where it was explained the club felt a change of manager was required.

Van Gaal’s coaching staff will also be dismissed, leaving the way clear for Mourinho to bring in his own backroom team as he tries to turn United back into Premier League champions.
