In Britain Teacher jailed, barred for life after sleeping with her 16-year-old student

The Geography teacher was charged to court after the teenager's mother exposed the relationship between her and the 16-year-old boy.

In a statement, the boy, who is unnamed for legal reasons, said he ‘felt trapped’ and had to distance himself from his friends and family while the relationship was going on.

The teacher, Lauren Cox, who worked at a school in south London, met the pupil when he was 13 and would give him sweets, a court heard.

Brian Reece, prosecuting, said the teacher gave the boy a lift and only a month afterwards, they began a sexual relationship when he was 16.

The student, whose name is being withheld for legal reasons also had explicit selfie videos sent to him by the teacher who told him to keep the relationship a secret.

Daily Mail UK reports that the boy, from Oxted in Surrey, had invented teenage girlfriends to fool his parents but his mother grew suspicious and watched Cox pick him up in her car at the family home.

Confronted by the mother last August, the teacher claimed she was giving the teenager ‘extra tuition’ before eventually owning up to the allegation and agreeing to end the affair and resign.

Judge Adam Huddleston praised the mother of the teen for uncovering the relationship and told Cox: "You have not just been a shame and disgrace to yourself, you have brought teaching into disrepute."

He then jailed her for 12 months and barred from teaching after finding her guilty of five counts of sleeping with a child in her care.

Lauren's husband, Andrew Cox, 30, has also filed for a divorce.
