Exclusive Interview With Tochukwu Onwubiko-Simon, A MTVBase VJ Contestant

Tochukwu Onwubiko was born on the 13th of July 1995. He's from Enugu State, Nigeria and lived most of his life in Enugu before his University Education in 2012. He attended Command Day Secondary School Enugu and he had always dreamt of a career in arts. This made him developed interest in studying Theatre. He is currently in his finals studying Theatre and Film in the University of Port Harcourt.

Tochukwu started acting since he was in primary three. According to him he love acting... especially on stage and he finds the experience invigorating.

He is last of four kids, two elder brothers and an only sister who he said he could "Die For".
His parents never gave him or his siblings any English name so when he grown older, he picked up his Dad's name 'Simon'.

He decided to participate in the MtVbase VJ Contest because to him it's a dream job. He started growing dreadlocks because his sister dared him to.

Tochukwu loves dogs and has two pet dogs. He's a lover of earphones and you can't separate him from his earphones. He loves hanging out with friends and family especially his younger cousins whom he adores a lot. He is a friend of books. Loves Chimamanda and John Grisham but will read anything else in between.

Meet Tochukwu Onwubiko-Simon

Q: How would you describe your personality?

Tochukwu: I am a very simple guy. I love to just laugh and be happy. I can be clown sometimes... Sometimes I can be serious too. I'm the guy that would make a fool of himself just to change someone's mood.

Q: Tell us about your experience schooling with dreadlocks?

Tochukwu: Being a Student of Theatre,  my lecturers aren't very critical of my hair. It's my identity and most people think it's cool. I actually get the random compliment from strangers. My locks are a great conversation starter.

Q: Aside school what have you working on?

Tochukwu: I've hosted a few events in school, anchored a few Red Carpets. Currently I'm an OAP in my school Radio Station. Call me a jack of all trades Lol...hustle must pay abi?

Q; Give us two words that describe your fashion style? 

Tochukwu: My style is both tame and wild at the same time.

Q: What made you chose to want to become MTVBase VJ?

Tochukwu: I love Entertainment generally.  I see the Job of a VJ as really fun. I think it would really give me the opportunity to be my happy go lucky self.

Q: What would be your first action if you win the contest?

Tochukwu: Show my appreciation to God and also everyone that voted, then pay my tithe. I will also use my earning to start my foundation for children with Down Syndrome.

Q: What other project are you involved in?

Tochukwu: Right now... The VJ search is what I'm really focused on. I still want to pursue an acting career in the future.
