A young boy in his early 20th was apprehended and lashed out on in the early hours of today in Erediauwa Area of Sapele Road, Benin city by some Area boys/Vigilantes for stealing an Android phone from a young lady.
According to an eyewitness identified as just Kate "I saw the young boy snatching the phone from the young lady while she was making call and he took to his heels. I saw the young girl running after him and shouting "Thief! Thief!!" Then I shouted thief. This made some boys to come out from their compound and chase after the thief"
The thief while trying to abscond with the phone was caught and dragged to the vigilante base where he was beaten mercilessly by some area boys and the vigilantes. While been lashed out on, the boy pleaded for mercy that he was ill and it was his first time of engaging in such act.
When asked why he decided to steal the phone, the young boy said he lost his mother this morning and that was the reason he decided to steal the phone and raise some money.
While some onlookers assumed the boy was an Hausa boy, it was later confirmed by the thief himself that he is not an Hausa boy but a Benin boy.
The vigilante group later took him away with their hilux and handed him over to the police.
