The National Television Authority (NTA) today misled the public on the hotly debated #EndSARS campaign.
Nigerians have been registering their displeasure and detailing their experiences at the hands of overzealous Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives in the country.
They have demanded a reform of the police unit to put a stop to incessant harassment and extortion of innocent persons by the officials.
NTA, in a bid to get among the conversation on Monday, published a story suggesting that Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris had pledged to reform the maligned police unit.
Turns out the statement attributed to IGP Idris by the National TV station was made last year December.
A link to a YouTube video was also provided by NTA, where FCT Commissioner of Police, made a declaration that no police officer should be seen carrying a long rifle while on mufti. That particular video was posted in 2016.
Many observers have quickly pointed that out, wondering why the government’s official channel which should provide credible and reliable information decided to mislead the public.
