Nigerian Who Came In Contact With Italian Patient Tests Positive For Coronavirus


The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire has on Monday confirmed that a Nigerian who came in contact with the Italian patient has tested positive for coronavirus.

He said the patient has been in isolation for the past two weeks.

The Italian patient is the first confirmed case in Nigeria.

He visited the Lafarge plant in Ewekoro where he developed symptoms and later moved to Lagos.

According to the minister, the patient has been quarantined at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba.

The Nigeria, whose identity was not disclosed, was said to have tested positive on March 8.

"We are very observant and we are taking precautions," the minister said.

"We are adopting a watch and wait approach, there is no need to take any drastic measure. Our number one action is to prevent the importation of the virus."

He urged Nigerians to continue with the highest level of hygiene and wash their hands regularly.
