5 Weird Body Parts That Continue To Function For A While After A Person Has Died

Death is one of the most painful experiences that one could ever imagine of. Once death takes place, a person goes beyond noticing anything that's happening to his/her body. However most people still know that it can take several days and maybe a week or two before all parts of the body shut down and stop functioning completely.

The following is a list of weird body parts that continue to function slightly after death before they can shut down completely.

1) Skin Cells

Your skin cells continues to live for a short while after you die and skin grafting can still be successful if taken 12 hours after death. Skin grafting is a surgical procedure that involves removing skin from one area of the body and moving it, or transplanting it, to a different area of the body. Did you know?

2) Hair appears to grow longer

Ever wondered why some men appear to have grown a beard after they die? It is believed that hair continues growing after a body dies.

How it happens

The skin starts to diminish (move back or further away from a previous position) as moisture begins to leave the body. As it does so, it pulls back towards the skull, making stubble (short, stiff hairs growing on a part of the body that has not been shaved for a while, especially on a man’s face) appear more prominent and so over time it appears that hair continues growing.

3) Urination and bowel movements takes place

Once all of the muscles in the body relaxes, the body will release what it had been holding back and this is why you may notice that a dead body will have wet themselves, or has passed some stool.

4) Digestion Continues to take place.

Once a person is dead, the helpful bacteria which aid in digestion, continue feeding on what is contained in the body after death thus breaking down amino acids and that can lead to some unpleasant smells. That’s why cotton wool is usually stuffed in a dead body's noses and mouths.

5) Most People Pass Gas

if you were a champion of passing gases in life, you can continue to be one in death. This is because after death, decomposition will start to occur causing gases to start generating and building up due to decay of food which was in the digestive system before death occurred. As the body begins to release the gas, there may be definitely sounds of flatulence (passing of gas through the back side)
