Meet The Longest Serving President In Africa Who Has Been In Office For Over 40 Years

Many thought Yoweri Museveni of Uganda is the longest serving African president but its certainly no, though the Ugandan president who just got reelected into office for the 6th consecutive term has been in office since 1986, he is not the longest-serving president in the Africa continent. Africa's longest-serving president has held unto the staff of office for over forty years.

I have often taught Nigerians are the most unfortunate people in Africa. But it's beginning to dawn on me that I was wrong. If for no other reason, for the fact that one individual can only be the president of Nigeria for a maximum of eight consecutive years.

However, the case is completely different for our Eastern neighbors, the Equatorial Guineans.

For over four decades, these people have not been privileged to taste the leadership of another president. Since on 3rd August 1979, Equatorial Guinea has been ruled by just one man, Teodoro Obiang Nguema.

Obiang was born on 5 June 1942, in August 1979, he carried out a military coup against his uncle, Francisco Macias Nguema to become the second president of the country since her independence. He has since remained as the country's national leader to date.

According to Wikipedia.org, Obiang is the second-longest successively serving non-royal national leader in the world and first in Africa. He has been widely accused of corruption and abuse of power.

His leadership style is often described as a legal dictatorship.
